Smoke & Vape Business Solution Magazine sat down with Nathan Coccimiglio, owner and founder of Cash Vape, to learn more about his business and experience in the industry.


When did you first get involved in the smoke and vape industry?
I started my first business in 2008. It was a supplement business and we manufactured energy pills and similar products. After that I opened a franchise smoke shop with my family, which we then sold in 2012. Both of these businesses gave me a lot of experience with the smoke shop side of things and with the manufacturing side as well.

How did Cash Vape get started?
Cash Vape is an example what is possible when passionate people set out to make a good product better. As e-cigarettes had become increasingly popular in the last few years, much of the industry had spent time on improving just the hardware, but I wanted to go in another direction. Towards the end of 2011 I began to form the business. I spent about 6 months doing research, visiting trade shows, building relationships, and learning all that I could.

I looked into a lot of suppliers throughout the third and fourth quarter of 2012. After all the testing and development, our premium e-liquid was released. I worked hard to build long-term relationships with our suppliers. By forming such strong relationships with our suppliers, I knew we could demand and assure both quality and consistency in our e-liquid.

Flash forward to 2015. This is when we officially formed the entity Cash Vape. The goal was to create a line of e-liquid that could be marketed heavily and but still have its own look and feel. We wanted to give it the attention that most people can’t give a regular product. A lot of vapor companies start when someone develops a great flavor and they form a company around that one product, but in this industry, regardless of how popular the product is – it won’t last forever. We wanted to develop a company to give products to, and this is how Cash Vape got started. We also wanted to give Cash Vape the tools necessary to do an efficient job marketing. We ended up with a custom made armored truck that goes hand in hand with the cash line. We currently have 6 flavors that are all very unique. Each has a different palate and flavor profile – we wanted to make a line that had a flavor for everyone.

What is your favorite thing about working in this industry?
My favorite part about what working in this industry is being able to help people quit smoking. That is on top of the fact that I just really just love my job. The majority of the clients and consumers in this industry a have a lot in common with each other and everyone is on pretty level field when it comes to thought process. It’s fun to work in an industry where the majority of the people genuinely enjoy what they are doing.


What is the hardest part about working in this industry?
Dishonest competition. The barrier to entry in this industry is very small, so anyone can get in. A lot of stores, retailers, wholesalers, and distributors don’t necessarily know the process to vet and do their due diligence on their suppliers. So it’s frustrating sometimes to have a competitor mislead a customer and it’s challenging to compete with companies that are dishonest.

Why have you stayed in this industry for so many years?
I have stayed in this industry for so long because of the innovation. Being able to see the technology change is an awesome thing to be a part of. While it can be challenging to keep up with how quickly things change in this industry, it’ always fun to watch.

What do you feel has been the most important factor in your success?
Great business and great products. It’s plain and simple.

What are you most proud of in your career thus far?
Relationships. Building strong relationships and ties with other industry professionals is something I take great pride in.

Looking forward to the future, what are you most excited about? Most concerned about?
There is one thing that a lot of people are not really looking forward to, and that the push to finally make this industry whole. It almost feels like up until this point, there have been a lot of unknowns in the last few years and although there will be a lot of changes ahead, they will ultimately solidify this industry. I personally welcome the legitimacy of taking the next step forward. While it will be stressful for many of us, it is important for our industry to mature, grow, and stay alive. For those of us that make it through these tough and imminent changes, there is light at the end of the tunnel and it will be well worth it as we finally reach solidarity as an industry.

Do you have an advice for other business owners like yourself who may be struggling in today’s industry?
Get involved with SFATA. There are 27 chapters at local and national levels. There is a big mentor program that should be launched here in a few weeks. The program will offer some great speakers and advice through panel discussions that will really help those in need. In addition to that, just do good business. Stay honest. Keep an open mind.
