Successful Anniversary Year: 40 Years of InterTabac
 InterTabac presented itself again as the world’s flagship trade fair
 Even more international than ever before
 12,500 trade visitors from around the world came to Dortmund

Dortmund (AWe) – InterTabac could look back on a forty-year history this year. This history gained it the leading market position. “InterTabac is today the world’s flagship trade fair of the industry and confirmed that again in 2018, ” said Sabine Loos, CEO of Westfalenhallen Dortmund GmbH. 12,500 trade visitors from all continents on Earth were again guests in the exhibition halls. Besides InterTabac, InterSupply, the trade fair for the production of tobacco goods and e-cigarettes, was co-located in Hall 3B for the fourth time. InterTabac itself occupied more exhibition halls than ever before and, for the first time, the Westfalenhalle event arena.
InterTabac presented itself as THE international forum of the industry in 2018. 45 per cent of all trade fair visitors meanwhile come from abroad. The percentage of foreign visitors has never been higher. It again increased by 4 percentage points in 2018 compared to the previous year.

Trade visitors came from, for example, the USA, Canada, Brazil, Chile and Colombia and Africa, including Morocco, Egypt and Nigeria, to Dortmund. Asian visitors came from countries like China, India, Indonesia and Hong Kong. The Middle East was represented by visitors from Israel, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. There were also visitors from Australia and New Zealand. European guests came from, for example, France, Great Britain, Italy, Austria, Poland and the Benelux countries. Besides the many international guests at the trade fair, there were also again trade visitors from almost all German states. Larger visitor groups came from, for example, Lower Saxony, Bavaria, Baden-Wurttemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate.

A total of 625 exhibitors from 54 countries showcased their products and services at the Dortmund Exhibition Centre from 21 to 23 September, an increase of about 12 per cent compared to the previous year. The trade visitors honoured the internationality of the trade fair by giving it an average rating of 1.9 within the scope of the visitor survey conducted by an independent exhibition market research institute.

“Even better than in 2017”
InterTabac completely fulfils the purchasing and information needs of the industry. 91 per cent of the trade visitors stated that their visit to InterTabac was worthwhile. The visitors were also satisfied with the presence of market leaders at InterTabac and gave that a ‘good’ rating. The percentage of visitors who rated
InterTabac even better than the year before increased.

The largest visitor groups in 2018 again came from the retail sector, followed by the wholesale sector and the industrial sector. The largest professional groups were again entrepreneurs, managing directors and departmental managers. Nine out of ten are involved in purchase decisions at their companies in an advisory, co-deciding or decision-making capacity.

The range of products and services at InterTabac was rated as ‘good’ by the visitors. Product preferences were also reflected by InterTabac’s extended range in the halls covering the Next Generation Products. In 2018, visitors were mainly interested in: cigarillos/cigars/cigarettes e-cigarettes/e-shishas, liquids, smoking accessories and cigarette paper, Next Generation Products and fine-cut tobacco.

NGP Presentation in Record Size
InterTabac 2018 showcased Next Generation Products on a record-sized exhibition area extending across the Westfalenhalle event arena and Halls 2 and 3A. The trade visitors were also able to access the trade fair directly from the main entrance of the Westfalenhalle event arena if they wanted to get straight to the NGPs.

The implementation of the NGP focus appealed to Dac Sprengel, Managing Director of the German Association of E-cigarette Retailers (VdeH): “I am delighted. The organisation of the trade fair worked perfectly. The Westfalenhalle event arena was an exhibition highlight. The large stands attracted the visitors straight away. The trade visitors were very satisfied. They appreciated the large entrance to the e-cigarette area. Exhibitor business was good. That was the best InterTabac to date.”

Dustin Dahlmann, Chairman of the Board of the German Alliance for Tobacco-Free Enjoyment (Bündnis für Tabakfreien Genuss), summarised happily: “We are meanwhile delighting the trade visitors with e-cigarettes in three halls. It is good to know that the trade fair takes the industry’s growth into account. We say: ‘Keep
that up’ and show all retailers and wholesalers that not only the smokers but also the trade should switch to e-cigarettes.”

More visitors want to also visit InterSupply
54 per cent of the InterTabac visitors, hence an increase of 6 percentage points compared to the previous year, stated that they also wanted to visit InterSupply. 114 exhibitors from 35 countries exhibited there. Visitors to the trade fair in Hall 3B were primarily interested in raw tobacco, flavours and additives, packaging materials and machines for the production of ecigarettes and tobacco goods.

The percentage of trade visitors who regarded this year’s InterSupply as being even better than last year’s increased, just like the rating for InterTabac – a clear sign of a positive trend for the young, promising trade fair.

In view of the co-location of InterTabac and InterSupply, trade visitors were again asked: “How do you rate the possibility of informing yourself about all topics – from the specific raw material to the finished product – in a single place and at the same time?” The result was as positive as in the previous year. The visitors
gave the concept a rating of 1.9.

After the trade fair is before the trade fair. Many exhibitors and trade visitors have therefore already saved the date in 2019. Next year, InterTabac and InterSupply will take place from 20 to 22 September. 91 per cent of the trade visitors already stated that they would come again next year.
