Can you share a brief history of how your company got started?

My sister owns a tobacco flavoring company and my brother in-law owned a B2B magazine. I had been working with them for a few years at trade shows throughout high school. It was at this time that I really became familiar with the industry. Once I graduated from college with my business degree, I decided to start my own company. I opened a nutrition club and started to manufacture my own brand of detox products. After spending time learning how to run a business, I really got into CBD and began to understand and appreciate all the benefits it offered. I started using CBD to calm anxiety, sleeplessness and help with joint discomforts. The more research I did, the more testimonials I came across of individuals who lived with painful aliments their entire life who now take CBD and live pain free. I knew CBD was helping not only me but also many other people and I knew I wanted to be a part of that.

What is your favorite thing about what you do?

I love my brand. I have worked really hard to create a memorable, unique brand that genuinely helps people in need. I make sure all the ingredients that we use are high quality in the purest form. We make sure to never add harmful chemicals or emulsifiers and instead use only natural ingredients. I am really proud of that. I love being able to offer products and raise awareness that the all natural route is not only just as effective, but comes at a reasonable price without the long list of negative side effects and earnings.

One of my favorite things to do is come out with new products. The process is exciting! Picking packaging and marketing material that people are drawn to and will associate with the brand is key. The Organabus logo is starting to make its mark on the industry. It is really cool when people say “Organabus, I know that brand” and even better when they say “Organabus, I love that brand!”.

How do you set personal goals for yourself? What is the process like?

My vision is continually evolving. I am constantly setting goals for the company and myself. I stay positive which in turn helps me stay motivated. I make lists. They help me prioritize and stay organized. Once I have a goal in my mind it must be met. I stay focused on the end result and follow through until I accomplish it.

What do you feel has been the most important factor in your success?

There are so many factors that have contributed to my success thus far. My sister and brother-in-law, Erin & Roger, have been incredible mentors. So many veterans in the industry believe in me and have taken me under their wing offering me knowledge, advice, guidance, friendship and support. I hope to be able to do that for someone one day.

The other key factor in my success is my team. I have a really great group of people that work with me.

They are smart, driven and devoted to the company. I define success by how accomplished we are as a group, not just me on my own. I want everyone on this team be successful and I want them to have fun doing so. It means a lot to have such awesome people supporting me and the company, I am thankful for that.

What are you most proud of so far in your career?

2017 was incredible for us. We more than doubled our sales from the previous year and I was able to buy a building for the company. Now we have a beautiful new clean room for formulating and mixing and a big warehouse for inventory. I am truly proud of our growth!

Looking forward to the future, what are you most excited about? What are you most concerned about?

I am looking forward to the future of the industry. It’s encouraging to see so many people becoming more open minded about cannabis and hemp products. CBD has become such a positive trend. Coming out with new products that cater to different individuals and different needs that customers don’t have to be hesitant about purchasing and consuming is exciting.

The legality aspect is concerning but not discouraging. Everyone has his or her own interpretation of the law. I think if we continue to build awareness, stay determined and focused we will eventually become legal and be able to legally state exactly what CBD products are, what they help with and can be used for.

Do you have any advice for others in this industry, people in your position or business owners, who may be struggling?

Keep going. Don’t ever let fear discourage you. You can not give up even if it’s terrifying. Being scared is a good thing, it means you are progressing. SVBS
